The Thumb Ring is placed over stockinette.
A layer of cast padding may be placed under the Thumb Ring
if patient has sensitive skin.
The smaller end of the Thumb Ring with the small round button on it is placed over the web space.
The larger end with the oblong button on it is placed proximal to the base of the thumb. The buttons provide anchorage to prevent moving.

Cast padding is applied, incorporating the edges of the Thumb Ring,
to hold it in place.

Cast material is then wrapped around the base of the Thumb Ring.
